The leaves of Henna are abundant in a red-orange molecule called lawsone. Though the stain of henna leaves colour when applied on hair is red-orange, yet it is translucent, and so it combines with the natural colour of the hair.
One of the most valuable herbs in Ayuredic medicine, Manjishtha’s roots contain an organic compound called Alizarin that gives its red colour.
